An INDIGENOUS /INNOVATIVE/PATENTED technology of societal importance, the Microwave Disinfection System for BioMedical Waste/ Hospital Waste was developed by Society for Applied Microwave Electronics And engineering Research (SAMEER), working as an autonomous R & D institution under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY).

Amongst the various methods recommended for the disposal of infectious waste, i.e., incineration, autoclaving, microwave, deep burial, etc., the microwave offers many advantages. The Microwave Disinfection System replaces the conventional Autoclave, Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and partly the Incinerator. Microwave Technology is based on the principle of generation of high-frequency electromagnetic waves. These waves penetrate and cause the particles within the Biomedical waste to vibrate and stimulate internal molecular heating therapy providing extraordinarily high-level disinfection from within, killing all pathogens, bacteria, and microorganisms entirely and consistently.

Performing testing of the Microwave Disinfection System for Biomedical waste is done by the Department of Bacteriology, HAFFKINE INSTITUTE, Mumbai, a premier microbiological test laboratory in the country.The transfer of this Patented technology for Commercial/Industrial production to a Digital System under a Transfer of Technology (TOT) with the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics And Engineering Research (SAMEER) (GOVERNMENT OF INDIA).

PRE-TREATMENT OF BIO-MEDICAL WASTE as per Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016 vide notification dated 28/03/2016,

As per Biomedical Waste Management (BMWM) Rules 2016, Medical waste needs to be “PRETREATED” at the point of the generation before being disposed of. 

The “PRE-TREATMENT” of this Highly Infectious Waste at the point of generating the first source lies GOVT Hospital/Private Hospital/Nursing Home/Dispensaries Primary Health Centers/Medical Colleges and research centres/paramedical services/ Veterinary colleges/ animal research centres. Blood banks/mortuaries/autopay centres/ Biotechnology Institutions) can be successfully done by “MICROWAVE DISINFECTION SYSTEM” (MicroDs-10, MicroDs 30 and MicroDs 60) whereby saves Doctors, nurses, hospital health care staff and patients at the first source from infections and thereby eliminating its spread during transportation of this BIOMEDICAL WASTE for the general public

Bio-Medical/Hospital Waste Category which can be “Pretreated” (Disinfect) before Disposing to the Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment (CBWTF)

(1) Microbiology & Biotechnology waste (wastes from laboratory cultures stocks or specimens of micro-organism live or attenuated vaccines, human and animal cell culture used in research and infection agents from research and industrial laboratories, wastes from the production of biological toxins dishes and devices used for transfer of cultures)

2) Waste Sharps (needles, syringes, scalpels, blades, glass, etc. that may cause puncture and cuts. This includes both used & unused sharps)

3) Solid Waste (items contaminated with bold and body fluids including cotton, dressing, soiled plaster casts, line beddings other materials contaminated with blood)

4) Solid Waste (Waste generated from disposable items other than the waste sharps such as tubing, catheters, intravenous sets, etc.)
